Description of Species Large shrubs or small evergreen trees, more or less hispid hairy; bark grey, peeling off in flakes; young shoots hollow. Leaves usually opposite, rarely alternate, broadly ovate or ovate-oblong, 12-16 x 5.5-10 cm, acute or acuminate, entire or dentate, scabrid, hairy on both surfaces; stipules 2 to each leaf, ovate-lanceolate; basal nerves 3-4; lateral nerves 4-7 pairs. Male flowers: many, near apical pore; calyx lobes 3, thinly membranous; stamen 1. Gall flowers: calyx absent; style subapical, short, thick. Female flowers: calyx lobes absent; style lateral, with hairs.
